About Us

By the Sea Productions opened in January 2017. Previous to moving to Morro Bay, we performed as the Pewter Plough Players in Cambria.  We adopted our new business name when we established Morro Bay's first permanent live theater company in Erickson Hall at St. Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church.

 

BTSP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a Morro Bay business license and  membership in the Chamber of Commerce. We are all volunteers who love theater and want to share that love with the community and out of town visitors, and we greatly appreciate the donations and sponsorships that help us do that.

           

Our seasons include full length plays that run for three weekends and Staged Readings that run for one weekend.  We present a combination of comedies, dramas and classics, as well as original plays by local writers.

 

We make it a point to use local businesses so that our operational expenses contribute to the city's economy.  We also donate tickets to numerous fundraisers during the year and join with the church in awarding annual scholarships at Morro Bay High School.

           

We welcome volunteers to help with set construction, distributing fliers, managing the house, operating sound and lighting, and of course, auditioning for our shows.  Our Staged Readings don’t require memorization and have minimal rehearsal schedules…a good way to get started performing.
